How many people have ever heard of the United States Foreign Service or a United States Diplomat? How many people, even know what they are and what they do? These individuals are behind the scenes day after day working to keep America a safe place for you and your family to live. But even with all this, many of us still remain indifferent to their job and work and the safety that they provide. Presidents and some prominant government officials, particularly those who are politically motivated, seem to get the credit when international wars are averted or won. They also tend to get the blame when things do not go the way we want. Why should they get the credit for these things when in realtity most of the actual work is done by people who are not known by name or occupation to the general public? The Bush administration is being acknowledged for the systematic way that it has delt with attacks on America so far. This is good but did anyone stop to think that maybe there was something or someone else at work here? They are flashed all over the television every day. But we should acknowledge the people who do not get seen, the people whose names will forever go unknown. These are the diplomats that are doing our nation's dirty work. They are working over time. So next time you hear about all the great heroes working hard in New York, D.C., and all over the world, just remember the other unsung heroes also working hard around the world to protect us from terrorists and other threats to our nation. In a world where people look up to phoney heroes on a big screen, real heroes that live and breath amoung us go unnoticed. So when we watch Superman or Batman saving the world from evil, maybe we should consider also the people living in places about the world working to help keep you safe.
