Teaching Morals in School

Should public schools teach morals? Morals I believe in are truthfulness, trustworthiness, modesty, and faithfulness because I was brought up in a Christian home. Other people may have had different religious upbringings, however. Because of this, one set of morals cannot be listed by one set of people to teach a diverse group of students. Patents should teach morals. Schools should teach facts. With the decline of the family unit and increased immorality on television, the collapse of society is the main cause for the question of morals being taught in school. Teaching morals in public school is just an "easy fix" for society's problems.

If you get past the fact that teaching morals is just a temporary solution for society's problems, there's the question of how to teach them without affirming a particular


I do realize that in some cases it would be a good idea to offer a class on morals and family values but that it should not be a required course. Morals should be taught by parents, not teachers.

And whatever happened to accountability? Why should schools teach us values that our parents should have been instilling in us since birth? Most moral teaching plans include parent involvement for a positive outcome. If the parents had been involved in the years before school, their child probably wouldn't need to be taught morals. I don't understand how people can justify child behavior by saying that their parents caused them to behave in a way that makes us think they need moral instruction. If it's our parents who corrupt us, then the entire human species is doomed.
