I have been particularly looking forward to taking English all year unlike many of my classmates, who see this course as a nuisance and a burden. Although I am a pre-medicine major, I hope to expand on my abilities as a writer because of the importance of written communication in every day life... after all, where would we be nowadays without letters, e-mails, and even simple notes? I have also found that written communication allows for improvement in verbal communication, yet another important aspect of day-to-day proceedings. A lot of times I am able to think more clearly and find the rights words to convey my messages either during or after writing something; in fact, some of my best conversations occur while I am taking a break from writing compositions. Considering my writing skills have not truly been tested in the past year and a half, they have significantly diminished; I find that I lack the high stylistic qualities that I had previously practiced on a daily basis. Along with my lack of style, I have a tendency of encountering problems with focus and progression of thought. Last year's English class did not provide enough discipline, and such a lax atmosphere led to a decline in my logical thought processes.
