This story is about how an eighteen-year-old orphan named Judy Abbott was allowed to go to college. It all began when the John Grier Home, the orphanage where she lived, had a faculty meeting, where a question of her future came up. It was decided that a trustee who only until now only sent boys to college would send her. So she went to college and mostly kept to herself, and no one wanted to associate with her because she was a foundling. After a while she made a friend in Sallie McBride and Julia Pendleton who were also freshmen; but Julia still didn't like associating with her. In the middle of the year she met Julia's Uncle Jervis and as a favor to Julia, Judy entertained Uncle Jervis who wasn't snotty like Julia. At Christmas time since she m

ade quick friends with Uncle Jervis he sent all three girls a box of chocolate; which was amazing to Judy be cause she was a foundling. At the end of her freshman year Judy failed all her exams; but she quickly asked for retakes. Then she spent her summer on a farm named Lock Willow. Which was great for her because she was a friend of Master Jervie, as he was called there, who was the cream of the crop in the Pendleton family.
In the middle of the story she became a sophomore, which went by real fast. After her summer at Lock Willow she was glad to get back to school and get back to work.
