This story is about how an eighteen-year-old orphan named Judy Abbott was allowed to go to college. It all began when the John Grier Home, the orphanage where she lived, had a faculty meeting, where a question of her future came up. It was decided that a trustee who only until now only sent boys to college would send her. So she went to college and mostly kept to herself, and no one wanted to associate with her because she was a foundling. After a while she made a friend in Sallie McBride and Julia Pendleton who were also freshmen; but Julia still didn’t like associating with her.
