Compare freedom theories from

The book of From Freedom to Slavery of Gerry Spence and pedagogy of oppressed of Paulo Freire are respectively discussed different topics. Spence mainly explores social circulations. He argued that while people feel freedom in society, actually they unconsciously enslave the society. Freire uses pedagogic theory to discuss oppression in education system. Actually, two books seem different subjects, yet there are still similarities between them.

First similarity is both authors discuss concept slavery that retrains consciousness of men. In From Freedom to Slavery, to restrain people's consciousness is by the oligarchy of mammoth corporation system that Spence calls the "New King"-a non living master dominate dominates our society (87). The interest of the "New king" is to convert all human values into merchandise and only care profit. By that, it tends to convince people that it is proper for New King entitles to own or control the entire wealth of the earth(87). Such as money means everything. Therefore, the mean of corporation is to own, to control media whose primary task is to brainwash me


Another similarity is both authors that provide solutions. From slavery to freedom, the corporation dominates society and change people's consciousness to adopt its goal. People are not aware and willing to give power to the New King .If people acknowledged the kingdom of the self; they would no longer accept slavery (202). That is, people hear self voice and reserve themselves. They dare to struggle for their freedom, change their situations and then take their power back; therefore, they will no longer enslave. Similarly, Freire argues that oppressed serve oppressors' interest-it changes consciousness of oppressed, not the situation that oppresses to them (Freire 74). To refuse oppression, Freire mentions people need to practice of conscientizacao- to learn to perceive social, political, and economic contradiction and to take action against the oppressive elements of reality (Freire 35). People are aware their situation and dare to take action to fight for their freedom. Consequently, people covert their position from object to subject. It's the way to refuse oppression.
