Dream
A detailed Summary of Dream
In "I Have A Dream" martin Luther King Jr. writes on effective argument because he uses pathos. Ethos and Logos is the backing, which strengthens the argument. This speech is very emotional because it expresses how King and other Negroes feel. His issue is, African Americans were promised their citizenship rights, but never received the reality of them. The claim in this speech is that "there will be no rest nor tranquility in America until the Negroes is granted his citizenship rights..."(King 683). This speech deals with the three appeal, ethos, pathos and logos. The three appeals feeds off each other in this essay to make the reader get behind the speaker.
This speech written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., is a proposal to America. This speech speaks for all Negroes in dealing with their rights that is well long overdue. King talks about how African Americans never receive what was granted to them, "the unalienable rights of life, liberty and happiness"(King 682). King emphasizes the importance of time and determination. For example, "It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the movement and to underestimate the determination of the Negro" (King 683). This can be looked at as a threat but not in

King uses with a check and bank, referring to justice and freedom. "America has given us a bad check, which has come back. But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt" (King 682). "We have come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice" (King 683). This metaphorical expression can give the reader a better prospective on how it feels to be given something but don't actually receive the benefits from it. This analogy is helpful, because it gives a different view of the topic, but it is still the same. The different view is the check being compared to freedom. A check is of course totally different from freedom. Just like justice has nothing to do with a bank. But the key concept is there is no reward from a check, or freedom.
a violent way. Time is very important to King. In this speech there is a section in which he starts every sentence with the word "now". King says "now is the time to make real the promises of Democracy" (King 683).
In the conclusion of his speech, King put a lot of emotion into it. He starts some sentences with "I have a dream". If you think about it, King dreams and hopes are not just his beliefs, they are all the other people who were in the same situation beliefs. After the last sentence that started with 'I have a dream", King says, "This is our hope. With this faith we will be able to work together, pray together, struggle together, go to jail together, stand up for our freedom together, knowing one day we will be free" So, instead of saying I have a dream, you can say all Negroes has this dream (King 683). This means if King wrote this speech defending the Negroes, but in the midst of this he did blatantly offend any white person. King felt that he needed help from everyone, even whites. Logica
