The film directed by Taggart Siegel specifically deals with racism that Indochinese people were facing and their brief life sketches in Rockford. There have been several attacks against Indochinese community by setting up pipe bombs in Buddhist temple, which was a place where the refugees gathered. The white people did not like Asians mainly because they believed that their jobs were taken away because of the Asians, yet government and church organizations were supporting them. Asian were not only thought to take over their jobs but they were also believe to be not paying any taxes yet live in better houses and own fine cars.

Church organizations are usually involved in an attempt to help out the refugees. The refugees usually do not engage themselves in preparing for their depart form their country unlike immigrants. It is more like two hours of decision that led them to flee from their own country. Therefore they are in great need of help and it is usually church organizations who help them out, if not the Buddhist who embrace them with understanding mind.
