Jonathan Swift decides to take Gulliver on an unforgettable journey where man is slave, and horse is master. This seeming utopia, has two main indigenous races living on an island, the Yahoos, and the Houyhnhnms. If compared, the Yahoos and the Houyhnhnms are completely unlike creatures, with entirely different habits, morals, and traits. The Houyhnhnms are gracious, and virtuous creatures, where as the Yahoos are vicious, greedy, and ignorant. The Houyhnhnms excelled in many ways, in their Government, in their way they raise their young, and in their living conditions and the traits that they have. The Houyhnhnms were truly living in a better society than both humans in the known world, and Yahoos were.

In the visit to the land of the Houyhnhnms Jonathan Swift tries to see people through the eyes of honest and pure horses. When Gulliver first sees the Yahoos, he says how much he despises even looking at them, and how they must be the ugliest creatures that he has ever seen in his entire journeys. The second factor that the Houyhnhnms exceeded over the Yahoos was in the way that they trained there young, and in the way that they treated females. The Yahoos are very careless with their young. Yes they give them complete independence, but is this truly safe? For example, when Gulliver found the three year old Yahoo running around, he was able to just pick it up with out the parents noticing. Only when the child yelled, did its parents run over. Even then, they would not come close to Gulliver because the mare was behind him. Are the Yahoos such cowards that they would not save their young from the hands of a complete stranger (Gulliver) because a horse is standing behind him? Even when Gulliver does release the child, the parents walk away, and let the baby just run off on its own. This shows complete carelessness. Yet the Houyhnhnms raise their children in the most adoring way. In educating the young of both sexes, the Houyhnhnms method is strict, yet rewarding. The children are not allowed to taste a grain of oats, except upon certain days, till eighteen years old; nor milk, but very rarely. This may seem strict, but it teaches discipline. In the summer they graze two hours in the morning, and as long in the evening, which their parents likewise observe. Diligence, temperance, exercise and cleanliness, are the lessons equally taught to the young ones of both sexes. Also, the Houyhnhnms care so much for their young to be healthy, that they train them to strength, speed, and hardiness, by exercising them in running races up and down steep hills, and over hard stony grounds; and when they are all in sweat, they are told to leap over head and ears into a pond or river. Also the Houyhnhnms like giving their children the chances to prove themselves, so four times a year the youth of a certain district meet to show their proficiency in running and leaping, and other feats of strength and agility; where the victor is rewarded with a song made in his or her praise. The Houyhnhnms treat their women completely equally. The master tells Gulliver this when Gulliver says "My master thought it monstrous in us to give the females a different kind of education from the males." where as the Yahoos only use the women for reproducing, which was clearly shown in the movie. The Houyhnhnms were truly living in a better society than both humans in the known world, and Yahoos were. The fact that they cared for their young, and believed so firmly in equality clearly shows this.

Jonathan Swift had good idea for an utopia. If one were to try to figure out what his seeming utopia would be, one would have to take in all the clues that Jonathan Swift leaves in his book.
