The Luddites

Technology is one of the greatest inventions that man had come up with. I think that many believe the same way and at the same time have changed many people's lives. With our generation I can honestly say that we cant live without present time technologies. For starters, how would an average teenager react if all appliances that play any type of music were to be taken off the market and destroyed? Probably an uprising would occur and much protest would take place on the streets. Or how about if all television sets were to be taken off the market and destroyed. No more television to watch and entertain us. Now that attracts a little more bigger crowd, including all people that are in the media and entertainment business, actors of all kinds, directors, screen writers, producers, and the most scariest of all, the people that use all of need these people and things for entertainment. The point I am trying to get to be that no one is used to

Immediate change in his or her life. If these types of changes were to occur in our life, not to many people would be happy and start to riot on the people who are responsible. That's what the Luddites were mad about when the first technological inventions were

There isn't a specific type of group of people that would be against Luddism as a organization or a club of some sort. It's really simple, in my mind most business owners would be opposed to Luddism because of the treat that Luddites can use towards them. They can make a business go downward and make a business owner go out of business, simply by protesting or going on strike for the littlest thing thought possible that a worker would disagree on. In most cases I would see this happening in a case of wages being lowered or no raises being awarded. In some cases, usually not seen as much, a product that a worker can be against or think it shouldn't be on the market. These kinds of actions can really affect the thinking of many customers and make them pull away from that particular business or product, and if looked further into, the manufacturer of the product.

Other companies or corporations that I think Luddites have a treat to is major corporations like Microsoft and AOL. As said in the New Luddite, one issue that was brought up in a meeting was the importance of the use of computers and television sets. In this case, Microsoft and AOL fall in this category. They both have connections with the arguments. Another stated fact was the anti e-mail situation which puts post-men out of work. Microsoft is a company that makes billions of dollars yearly and if protests were to occur, Microsoft could go down, and even the slightest decrees could be a problem for
