Society has a certain standard that people follow to be called normal, but when a person doesn't follow those standards they are classified as a misfit. With these standards to follow society has become bias towards people who doesn't abide by them and develop absurd remarks. According to Webster's Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary: misfit is one person that is unable to adjust to one's environment or circumstances or its considered to be disturbingly different from others. We view misfits as the "weird person" in our society, but I believe that society fails to recognize that they are responsible for the shaping these people into who they are.

Viewing how misfits act, society is no help to their lifestyle and is instigating the behavior. I believe that society's reaction towards misfits lead to long term psychological problems and may even cause retaliation. The massacre at columbine was a result of the long term abuse, On April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School suspects Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people and themselves, and more than 20 were wounded. According to Brooks Brown, a close friend to the Columbine suspects, in his book "No Easy Answers: The Truth Behind Death at Columbine," the massacre was a result of the long term abuse: "People only know the top skin of Columbine, the top little part, the parts the media reported so much..."(Brown 270). We can see a similar but milder situation with our narrator who is suffering from post pardom depression.
