The novel “Black Beauty” by Anna Sewell is a story about the life of a horse and how he was treated by different owners. Even though the novel is intended to be a children’s book, parents can use it as a manual on how and how not to raise their children. This novel was a milestone because few people had ever considered what their carelessness or thoughtlessness did to animals. This novel is not only about animal cruelty however. It is also about cruelty in general, patience, perseverance, and caring for what you are responsible for. The novel makes you question man's treatment of his pets and will perhaps make you more sensitive to an animal's needs. The author is trying to teach us that the cruel and thoughtless treatment of animals is not right. Parents can use this novel to help them teach their children on how and how not to treat animals and other human beings.
