Genesis
Genesis is the well known Christian creation story. This myth and others like it were created in earlier times to explain the unanswerable questions in society. Unable to know where mankind and the earth originated, stories such as Genesis evolved. These writings provided their believers with a sense of security in their existence as human and the environment surrounding them. Genesis begins with a supreme being, God. This God has always existed and is the sole reason for all of creation. Humans have found the need to have a superior controller of the unknown. This God takes the darkness and void and creates time itself. He separates lightness from darkness, which He calls Night and Day. He then creates Heaven and Earth, land and water. On the land, God makes plant life, seed and fruit bearing trees. He creates the stars in the heaven, the sun and moon. He places animals on land and in the water. Fish in the ocean and reproducing mammals on land. Final, but most important God creates man. He calls him Adam. Adam is put in charge of all these creatures. In the Garden, the myth tells of how God places a serpent within Eden. The serpent knows that God has given all the fruits of the trees except one. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. This particular tree is forbidden to be eaten by man. The serpent is crafty though and gets Eve to think she will be as knowledgeable as God by eating this fruit. She falls into temptation and eats of the tree. She then convinces Adam to also eat. He follows and the result is the final and horrible downfall of man. In an attempt to explain the hardships of this world, society created a reason for all the pain that existed on earth. ay week in which the seventh, Sunday, is kept sacred and is intended for worshipping God at church. The Sabbath day is a representation of the day God rested in Genesis. Adam and his wife Eve, are placed in a beautiful, perfect garden, Eden. Both are naked yet unashamed. Eden is a land of plenty. Plant and fruits are abundant, sickness and hunger do not exist. No evil is present. This part of the myth becomes the answer for all physical and emotional suffering mankind is faced with. God comes down and curses the two disobedient humans. They each realize their nakedness
