Much Ado About Nothing

In Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare, the characters had intriguing relationships with each other. The relationships that comprise this play revealed a common truth about human nature. In the same way, the characters exhibited many complex and distinct elements present in all human beings. The romantic relationships of Beatrice, Benedict, Hero, and Claudio mimic the act of courtship and love in the real world. Human beings can discover truths about life, such as relationships in this play, through fiction. Relationships reveal more about human nature and emotion than anything else.

Love allowed Beatrice, Benedict, Hero, and Claudio to interact in a way that was both comical and entertaining. However, there is a large disparity in the way these people showed their emotions. The differences helped to distinguish each character and his/her personality. The character of Claudio was very impulsive. His actions were very rash and impetuous. He fell in love with Hero without havin


Women were expected to do whatever men told them and not ask questions. However, love allows a woman today to be an avid pursuer and to choose her partner. Hero is the epitome of the compliant woman. When her father Leonato told her she was to marry Claudio, she agreed. Hero seemed to have no opinion on the matter whatsoever. In her cause, it appeared that love played no role in marriage. The exaggeration of her character was also unreal, which furthered the comic absurdity of the play.

Much Ado About Nothing played with the concept of romantic love and its effects on those who experience it. From the two main couples we learned of family values and expectations, different attitudes toward love, and how different couples handle their affections. Great literary works are those that contain real life dramas as this play did.
