In the field of Early Childhood, time management is critical because of the nature of the job. I have read and took classes to give me insight to how to plan my time and prioritize. The importance of learning this technique and skill will help in building professionalism and bring credibility to this field. There are many ways and hints to help develop this skill therefore giving more time for children and families.

There are many things that can steal time from us. The first step to time management is looking at what we do with our time and where we are wasting time. Keeping a daily journal of what you do with your time is a helpful way to see how you are spending it. Doing this for a week can give you a idea of areas that could be changed. It is best to keep track in 15 minute increments and


I have found that organizing my work space is one of the first things I do. When I am able to go into a classroom and find materials quickly so that I can set up the classroom then I feel less stressed for the day. When children ask for something that will extend play or the project they are working on then I am able to find it quickly.

In this field, we always need to be ahead of the game or we can become so stressed and then create tension in the classroom. Reexamining what and how we do things can help us manage our classroom in a more efficient and effective way.

Planning is the next step that is important. Knowing what you will be implementing in the class and the activities that you will do can help to have a goal in mind for the day. This helps so you know what materials need to be gathered. I beli
