The year of 1992 could have in no way hinted to the mass evil being displayed in the world right now. 1992 was a year where terrorism was at it lowest point in 20 years. The world seemed to be in harmony, as did William Munny, played by Clint Eastwood, for a portion of the movie. His wife, who had been passed for 3 years at the beginning of the movie, had rid him of his old murderous and scandalous ways. He had given up drinking and smoking, which were things he commonly associated with his past

The next resemblance is that they both abused their authority by savagely beating others. Little Bill brutally beat William and a character named English Bob. He beat them for seeing them with a weapon and overreacted to them not turning in their gun, a law of the city but not much of the west. He went overboard and beat them brutally kicking them repeatedly in the face. The police officers involved in the LA Riots bared a common misconception with Little Bill. They both thought they were abiding by what the law said, but took matters way overboard and did actions far worse than what the people deserved. They both acted on an instinct of enforcing the law, but through corruptness and evil, they performed savage attacks. The attacks performed on both sides brought much attention from outside sources. People around the world watched in awe the way the trial went. They saw footage of the events from a tape recorded by a cameraman who had hid in the bushes when the attack took place. In Unforgiven the town crowded around and looked at the sheriff in disgust as he beat English Bob for the minor offense he had done. Each ones actions brought a tarnished view to each person and led to respect being lost for Little Bill and for the Los Angeles Police Department, whose police officers had represented themselves as badly and as out of control as they did. These views stuck with Little Bill to the grave and the 4 police officers in the beating lost their jobs and will have to live with their consequences to the grave.

In 1992, Nicoderm was introduced. It was the first patch ever made to help you quit smoking. This is relative to William Munny who quit smoking when he married the love of his life. Nicoderm has helped many people around the world quit the bad habit of smoking. So, in retrospect William Munny's wife was the Nicoderm that helped William turn his life around.

Unforgiven is not like many of the older westerns. It expressed more emphasis on the idea of sexism than the older westerns. These older westerns bared more emphasis on racism, usually against Native Americans. In Unforgiven the black man was treated fairly, but the women were abused often and treated with disrespect by most of the town. Even the bar owner, who received part of the pay, abused them often and showed disgust for their slutty behavior even though he encouraged it for the money he received. Feminist ideals were popular in 1992 and upheld in this movie. The female characters overcame adversity and took the law into their own hands. They hired Munny and his friends to kill the rapists. Even in the terrible circumstances, they had been able to save $1,000 dollars for the reward. This showed teamwork, resourcefulness, and tenacity.

William Munny's past brings shame to him as you learn more about it in the later part of the movie. It shows him as a cruel murderer. He not only killed men, but was commonly known as a murderer of women and children. This image was changed by his love of a woman, but his past remained tarnished by this murderous image. She got him away from alcohol, drugs, murdering, and a life of sex with whores. She straightened him out for 8 years, but a tempting offer of 500 dollars to kill a man who cut a woman's face, raped, and attempted to kill her,
