To Kill a Mockingbird is a book written by Harper Lee. This book is told through the eyes of a six-year-old girl by the name of Scout Finch. It tells what she experiences with her brother, Jem, and their good friend, Dill. The setting of this book is in a town called Maycomb, Alabama in 1930. This book deals with some issues such as racism, discrimination, and prejudice. Scout and Jem's mother died four years ago, and they are taking care of their father, Atticus, and the cook Calpurina. Scout, Jem, and Dill love to make up games and tell stories that they have heard about Arthur Radley. They call Arthur Boo because they believe he is over six feet tall, thirty-three years old, with rotten yellow teeth, colossal bulging eyes, and feeds on raw animals. The Rad
leys are very mysterious and keep to themselves. They don't believe in going to church on Sundays either, they just stay inside and worship. Later in the book, when Miss Maudie's house is on fire, Boo puts a blanket over Scout's shoulders to keep her warm. In the beginning of the story Jem and Scout were disappointed with their father. He was not like other fathers. He would not play football with them, they thought he had a boring job, and he did not have any interesting hobbies. They learn later that Atticus is the best shot in all of Maycomb. They also learn that Judge Taylor personally asked Atticus to defend Tom Robinson.
