A detailed Summary of Mary Reilly
In comparing the novel of Mary Reilly to the motion picture I noticed a few differences in the two such as the slightly changed narrative. In the first scene of the novel, to begin with, we are introduced immediately to Mary's childhood horror from her point of view. This gives the reader a feeling of closeness to Mary right off the bat. On the other hand, in the movie, the beginning starts out with more of a 3rd person point of view generally going about the house viewing the many duties of the servants throughout the house. By doing this, the feeling of being inside of Mary's thoughts is lost. In my opinion this was a strong characteristic of the novel. Without the first person's point of
