Narrative
When ever I think of the past, I think of Subic City, Philippines. The sex, mostly, comes to mind. When I close my eyes, I still see the rows of bars with their neon signs proudly displayed, hear the loud rock music screaming through open windows, and smell the sex leeking through the opened door ways. One day, of the two years I had spent there, stood out more in my mind than any other. I had just gotten through having sex at one of the bars and started slowly walking through town. The girls, smiling and waving from balconies and doorways, beg me to enter their establishments. I got halfway into town when an old woman approached me. She looked like any other street person with frazzled hair and an old dress that was worn far too long. She stood in front of me for what seemed like a long time before she squared her shoulders, looked me in eyes and said, "Will you take my grand daughter's virginity so she can go work in a bar?". The question she asked me sent my mind reeling with shock, wondering of perverse possibilities, and changing my perspective of the women in the bars. At first, I wanted to scream at the grand mother for even asking me such question.
