A word or phrase that can describe me best is a cautious friend. I make friends a lot easier then most people, although I don't exactly know why. Maybe it's the careful way I make friends. The way I make friends heavily depends on my personality. Only after the initial meeting do I evaluate them and determine whether or not I think they should be my friend. Bonding follows, and total trust is the final stage. Strange, maybe, but effective. Because I am a rather shy person before I really get to know someone, I tend to first meet potential friends through unavoidable interaction .

Total trust is always the goal for me when I start a friendship. Total trust for me only exists with my closest friends, the friends who I think know me better than anyone else. Being able to trust someone means you can be yourself and knowing you don't have to worry about embarrassing people or hurting people's feelings or having them think less of me. Unless something breaks the trust, I will be friends with that person for a very long time. I prefer to have a small group of friends that I can have lengthy contact with as opposed to a large group of friends who I do not know as well. It means more when you finally become best friends with someone to know that not many other people share that bond.
