Global article essay

The term "global events" in Mr. Beeken's definition is any incident that gets people react or provokes reactions. Examples are human rights violations, public health issues, economic, technological advances, environment issues, war, and etc. Articles aren't really global because not everyone reads nor cares about what is happening. The true point of this assignment is so that Beeken can show all the losers in his class to read articles and newspapers to be informed what is happening around the world or to provoke a reaction from the people. Showing the students that reading and reacting is part of the democratic way.

Cancer is such a widespread disease that is known throughout the world and is basically on everyone's mind, next to how to kill Saddam/terrorists. That's what makes cancer such a global issue because the public likes to hear about breakthroughs, treatments, and cures, anything that can help the war on cancer. The articles one, six, and ten are the ten approved articles I have selected are related to cancer. The first one is concerned with prostate cancer, which is a problem for men and their privates. The main purpose of this issue is to tell people, especial men to be in either groups that

1. "Potential AIDS preventive doubles as a contraceptive"

10. "Blair Indicts Saddam"

The "After the Blueberries" article doesn't really sound like a global article, but it does relate to maintaining a healthy diet, which is important to all human beings because many fruits/vegetables are shown to lower the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. The issue is global because it informs the public what is in the people's best interest and consuming what types of foods is better according to the seasons. Risks of diseases are reduced because fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, flavanoids, carotenoids, vitamins and fiber. Informs the people that plants change with the seasons, which means some lose the usefulness if eater throughout the season. This will tell the people that imported foods is not the best way to go and that the more colorful the fruits/vegetable are the better it is for you, if they do not already know.

The only article that gets out of the pattern of similar topics is "Blair Indicts Saddam" because I heard from networking that Mr. Beeken doesn't want all health articles because its too boring. So I was like what the hell I will throw this in because it has to do with a man that everyone wants to kill. The only reason for the revulsion is all because President Bush says Saddam is connected to terrorists groups. That automatically means go to war now and wipe him off the face of the earth. I think that was the plot; when the people of America are feeling sad and angry throw in the name Saddam. I bet the real goal is an economic one and it is to take the oil of Iraq.

are the watchful waiting or the surgically removed group. It tells you the pros and cons of both sides, such as if you wait the chances of dying are greater and if you choose surgery it may not even be necessary because the disease is slow growing; many will die with it rather than from it. The next connected article was stopping cancer in its tracks, which involves technological advances that allow scientists to identify the first changes in cells as they are overtaken by the cancer. Scientists are also linking the lifestyles we choose to live may have an effect on the cancer or the factors leading to it. I final article that relates cancer by the production of a new drug that is intended to bring cancer to an end by cutting the blood supply to the tumor. The cancer researchers were amazed by the shrinkage rate for a drug in its early development.

The following are the list of the most important to the least important to the average citizens:

I believe the issue "Blair Indicts Saddam" to the least important to the average person because Saddam is not a true problem for the world. The only people concerned with killing him or even dealing with Saddam are all the Americans, especially Mr. Bush. The average person just wants to live a healthy, long, and disease free life. Actually I think all the articles are not important to the average person because you said that the average citizen only thinks about how to live for that day, week, and month. People from many other countries think about daily survival, to take everything one day at a time.
