A detailed Summary of A Loving Bond-Joy luck club

The conflict in The Joy Luck Club, the mother and the daughters had problems adapting to each other. The novel, The Joy Luck Club written by Amy Tan which was later adapted to a screenplay and became a full length feature film was a dramatic, emotionally charged story dealing with the trial and tribulations of four Chinese women who have become close friends over the course of their lives. The story, at one point, focuses on their adolescent lives which were anything but pleasant as they grew and matured in their homeland of China. The author individually depicts the hardships each woman has to endure in her teenage years with a believable, heartfelt sense of realism, which at times can be even a slight bit graphic. The story then progresses to their four daughters and the life altering experiences they have gone through in America. The movie displays in great detail how the four mothers desperately struggle to overcome their adversity which then later affects their daughters' lives in their childhood as well as in their social lives. However, they do persevere in spite of their mothers' misunderstood and complicated attitudes toward them, in turn, making the bond within their relationships stronger in the end.

Once someone is confronted with such a horrific and tragic experience he or she will change either for the better or for the worse as a result of it. Some of the situations that those women were face with would have convinced many that the only true escape would be to commit the dreadful and useless act of taking one's own life. For example when one of the mothers, Ying-Ying had lost herself after her ruined marriage, married to a dishonorable, cheating husband she was force to take the only thing in life that her husband loved, his child. The massive psychological damage that they suffered did affect the way they raised and treated their daughters even way into their childhood. She had a problem with her daughter Lena and her husband knowing what she was going through and told her to fix this marriage or else everything would fall apart because there were splitting everything fifty/fifty which turned everything into a mess. Waverly's mother is another prime example of this. Waverly gave custody of her mother to another woman at a tender age of fifteen to be wed. This deeply pained her emotionally as well as mentally. The long term consequences were then later realized when Waverly was a child her mother unknowingly used her as a prized show piece which made Waverly extremely angry and frustrated. Many expectations were place upon her without any consent of hers whatsoever. Lindo wanted the whole world to know how wonderful Waverly was because she didn't want the same thing that happened to her to repeat itself on Waverly.
