Once someone is confronted with such a horrific and tragic experience he or she will change either for the better or for the worse as a result of it. Some of the situations that those women were face with would have convinced many that the only true escape would be to commit the dreadful and useless act of taking one's own life. For example when one of the mothers, Ying-Ying had lost herself after her ruined marriage, married to a dishonorable, cheating husband she was force to take the only thing in life that her husband loved, his child. The massive psychological damage that they suffered did affect the way they raised and treated their daughters even way into their childhood. She had a problem with her daughter Lena and her husband knowing what she was going through and told her to fix this marriage or else everything would fall apart because there were splitting everything fifty/fifty which turned everything into a mess.
