Charlie Chaplin once said, "Work is life, and I love to live." Work is exactly what Charlie Chaplin did on the set of all his movies. He was the director, producer, writer, composer, editor, and actor. Charlie Chaplin appeared in 72 short films and nine regular films. Sitting at the bar night after night took a toll on Charles Sr., as he turned to alcoholism. Therefore, his m

In the end, Charlie Chaplin has illustrated how nationalism, socialism, scientific advancement, and religion, if taken too far, can cause misery. Though he shows that we are humans, we will make mistakes, and that is the miracle of the universe.
However, ironically, it was Chaplin's liberal views that lead to his exile form America. As the Red Scare swept American, and McCarthyism took control of congress, more open-minded innocent people were puppets to society. All Chaplin had to say in his defense was, "I remain just one thing, and one thing only, and that is a clown. It places me on a far higher plane than any politician."
Those comments tell us that technology can bring misery and destruction, however, we should not be fearful of technology. We should embrace it the advancements for their contributions in making us a better human race. Charlie Chaplin keeps on preaching by saying:
One example of these themes is illustrated in the film "Modern Times". "Modern Times" is a film that takes place during the Great Depression. The common worker had no rights. And a struggle between socialism and liberalism was on the rise. In the early stages of liberalism, the government took a lassie-faire stance. The best thing for capitalism was to allow the individual run their business as they say fit the pursuit of happiness. However, this happiness was thought happiness for only the factory bosses and not the factory workers. The workers were thought as slaves to the factory. They had to work long hours with no breaks and low wages. If they were not happy with there pay or working conditions they could do nothing. If they complained or strike they would be replaced and out of a job. With the conditions getting worse and worse, socialism was thought to be the answer for the workers.
"In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written
You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure."
What Chaplin is saying, is that God gave us these gifts. He wants us to keep striving for perfection.
