Romeo and Juliet
One's fortune, whether it be good or bad could be so extreme that it may mean the difference between love and death. The story of Romeo and Juliet's forbidden love provides the perfect example for this. They face many misfortunes and even encounter a few deaths. Fortuna, Romeo's paramour, follows the two lovers and haunts them until the end with misery at every step they take, eventually catching up with them Romeo and Juliet at the end. Death, Juliet's paramour, also aggravates Romeo and Juliet. He shadows the lovers, also until the end, and establishes the consequences that are yet to come for them through Tybalt and Mercutio's deaths and eventually theirs if they continue there love. Fortuna and Death cleverly work together to make Romeo and Juliet end their love and return to their true lovers, Fortuna being Romeo; Death being Juliet's. Fortuna and Death bring misfortune and even death to Romeo and Juliet to hopefully end their love. Although Romeo and Juliet claim they have fallen in love, Fortuna becomes Romeo's true lover; Death, Juliet's. Here, Death includes itself. Romeo's new love to Juliet and no longer to her enrages Fortuna. She becomes angry after Romeo begins to lust after Juliet and lays "all [his] fortunes at [Juliet's] foot" (2.2.147.) and starts to betray Fortuna. She has now lost trust in Romeo, has had enough and is now ready to teach her love-blinded Romeo a lesson. With the help of Death, she leads Romeo into the murder of Tybalt, which then leads him into banishment and away from Juliet. By having Romeo kill Tybalt, Romeo becomes "Fortune's fool" (3.1.135.) once again. Fortuna and Death succeed in making Romeo and Juliet's love miserable and impossible to last any longer. Romeo must impracticably "love [Tybalt] better than [he] canst devise" (3.1.68.) now that Tybalt and him are family. Fortuna tests Romeo to perform irrational actions in the name of love that he would not be able to do regularly such as having to love Tybalt and even having to kill Tybalt. e, Death, with the help of Fortuna, will succeed in his task to get back his true lover, along with Fortuna's also. he meets Juliet and unfortunately they fall in love. When Juliet hears of this news, she "long[s] to die" (4.1.66.) and Death intelligently becomes a part of Fortuna's scheme. Juliet also has to face many impractical situations such as not "[speaking] ill of him that is [her] husband" (3.2.97.) after her husband kills her cousin.
