I choose this this particiular book because I was interested in knowing in Black culture******The Long Dream was during the Jim Crow's Law Era, which segregated blacks and whites.The political figures in the book was the Chief of Police Cantly, whoi takes bribes to keep illegal businesess from being closed. Another political figure was Attorney Harvey McWilliams who had ran for mayor, who waa a very outspoken, reformer man and belived in juststice for all. The soul figure in the novel was Tyree Tucker, who was a very known business owner. He owned a funeral home in the eyes of the community, and was a silent partner in an illegal whore The main character in the book is a boy named Rex (FISHBELLY) Tucker, who learned about the realities of life the hardway and over come obstacles. Fishbelly would of never thought that he would have to grow up and become a man faster than he imagined. I really enjoyed this book. It gave me a better perspective in how blacks were treated In example, Black people were permitted to olny certain schools, restaurants , churches, they ride in the back of the busse and trains. When buying something they had a colored line olny.The white were women and was known. He was captured and killed in a horrible way. Nothing was said and outrages. The blacks knew better than to question the white authority in anything. They knew if coinsidered ignorant and were treated different.
