The Yellow Wallpaper

A detailed Summary of The Yellow Wallpaper

Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" graphically depicts the treatment of a woman by a man in a way that expresses a universal tragedy. She artfully employs actions of characters, dialogue, and detail to indicate if a man suppresses a woman, it could lead to losing her individuality.

Gilman uses actions of characters to show how a woman lost her individuality. There are two main characters in "The Yellow Wallpaper", John and his wife. "Our lease will be up in three weeks, and I can't see how to leave before." "I don't wait a bit more," said I, "nor as much; and my appetite may be better in the evening when you are here but it is worse in the morning when you are away!" "My darling," said he, "I beg of you, for my sake and for our child's sake, as well as for your own, that you will never for one instant let that idea enter your mind! There is nothing so dangerous, so fascinating to a temperament like yours. It is a false and foolish fancy. Can you not trust me as a physician when I tell you so?". This dialogue dramatizes the notion that time and time again, when she wanted to do something of her own, he just refuses her and not giving her any chance of
