The group left Nov. 8 for the 45th Annual Advertising Career Conference, sponsored by the Advertising Women of New York and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

After arriving at La Guardia Airport, the group checked in to the Wellington Hotel in downtown Manhattan. The students' first stop was NBC studios, where they took the "Experience tour." Here, students got a behind-the-scenes peek at prime-time shows such as "Dateline" and "NBC Sports Center," and they spotted actress Gwyneth Paltrow on the set of "Saturday Night Live." Students also caught a glimpse of teen-age pop star Mandy Moore in the ice-skating rink at Rockefeller Center.

A tour of DIGITAS Advertising revealed how the company goes about creating marketing campaigns for Fortune 500 companies such as GMC, AT&T and Seagrams.

Saturday morning the young women woke up early for a full day of conference sessions. Sessions began with a workshop about resumes and included workshops and lectures on topics related to public relations, television production, advertising and sales, portfolio development, music in entertainment, and graphic design.

Allison Monk, a vice president and assistant director, stated, "Everything you do in your life, every thought you have can be infused with strategy."
