People Kill People
There are many people in the world who own handguns, but we ask ourselves if guns are the problem, or if criminals are the problem. Many would believe that it's the guns that kill people, but what about the people who possess these guns? There is way too much focus on guns and not the criminals walking our streets today, criminals who should be behind bars. Gun control makes no effort to control criminals. Therefore, homicide will not be reduced by putting a ban on guns, but instead by eliminating the criminals who commit these crimes. Many believe that by banning guns, crime will be reduced. In fact, there are actual studies that show reduced homicide rates are due to stricter laws on handguns. Although it may seem logical, it is a total false theory. How is it so certain that stricter laws on handguns are directly related to the reduced homicides? How do we know that many people just didn't feel like killing anybody that year? There is no absolute, positive reason for why homicide was dropped. Therefore making this statement ridiculous and not valid. Controlling handguns is taking away the rights of our citizens. Right
There are many who blame guns on accidental deaths in the home. For example, a 2-year-old boy happens to get a hold his dad's handgun somehow. He plays with it and pretends to shoot his other friend, but it actually fires and kills his little friend. Now is the gun's fault or is it the irresponsible parents'? The gun should have been locked up and kept away in a safe wear it is unattainable for children to get to. The fault is in the parent in this situation. The parent should be responsible enough not to just leave the gun accessible to a child like that. It is not the guns fault; once again, it is in the fault of the person who possesses the gun. Many say that the NRA makes it too easy too get handguns. The NRA actually is trying to get crime off the streets. They are actually coming up with a plan called Project Crime Control designed to get criminals off the streets (LaPierre 255). One aspect of their plan is too keep criminals in jail. From Los Angeles to Washington, it costs $430,000 to let felons go free, but $20,000 per year to keep them behind bars ( LaPierre 255). Keeping them in jail sounds cheaper and like a good idea. The NRA has
