Democracy or Republic
What is a beverage? What is coffee? What is tea? Which is good for one's health? Which is not? Which appeals more to the general public? Both beverages, coffee and tea were to serve the same purpose. It was to provide humans with pleasure, as well as a relaxed state of mind. Their similarities go beyond that too. Not only are they a form of beverage, but they also serve as a form of stimulant. The caffeine in both coffee and tea gives the little perks one feels when sipping the respective drinks. However, that is probably as far as their similarities go. If the paper was about coffee and tea, the question would be "what is the difference between them two?" "Why do people drink them for?" This paper, however, is not about that analogy of coffee and tea. Instead, we shall delve into a more controversial topic, "What is the difference between a Republic and a Democracy". For as long as Republics and Democracies have existed, people have pondered exactly what the difference between them is. The American Heritage Dictionary's defined a Democracy as a "Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives." . In conclusion, the difference between a Republic and a Democracy is very slight. They are both attempts to create an equal and fair society. Through this project, I have gained more insight on politics; the forms of governments in the United States. I now understand why the general public is quick to slam on the Republicans, and why they claim that the Republicans "love war". There was more understanding when it comes to current events, for now I see how President Bush is able to command that much power in a government that is supposedly "democratic". If one were to ask me what a democracy is, I would reply that it is merely an idealistic philosophy that gradually goes awry with time, for the republic will gain more command and power. The checks and balances that exist in our constitution is definitely a wise and prudent decision made by our Founding Fathers. They were learned in politics to predict that, without checks and balances, a democracy will sway towards the republic, which will eventually sway towards a monarch. And that would mean that mankind would be doomed once again, for they will never be able to properly govern themselves. not a monarchy. 2.
