William Golding and William Shakespeare created the same character, despite the obvious time, setting, and theme differences. Jack Merridew and Shylock are alike in many ways. They are both cold hearted, cruel, and vicious, thereby illuminating the theme of man's inhumanity toward others.Shylock the Jew, and the lead choirboy Jack are exceptionally similar characters.
