Hundreds of years ago, there was a reverend named Samuel Parris. He had one daughter named Betty, and a niece named Abigail. Since Salem was a theocracy at the time, Rev. Parris was the head of the church and town. But due to his actions and lack of authority, many people were wrongly executed during the Salem Witch Trial in 1692. In 1953, a man named Arthur Miller decided to write a play based on this story. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller illustrates themes such as: guilt, hypocrisy, and revenge. Guilt, a word that means: a feeling of remorse for a real or imagined wrongdoing. Most, if not all, people have felt this way one time or other.
