Black Plague
Black Plague had many names, like Black Death, Bubonic Plague, and Black Plague. The Black Plague struck with speed and no feeling for whom it struck. The Black Plague died down some and has been controlled somewhat, but is still in some parts of the world. The Black Plague was the most disastrous plague in the early to mid fourteenth century, it killed twenty five million people in just five years (1347-1352). How the Black Plague began was back in the fourteenth century by black rats that carried the Bacillus or the Yersinia pestis, it lived in the stomach of the black rat. The Bacillus lived in the black rats stomach, the reason the Bacillus got out and started this terrible epidemic was because fleas would bite the black rats, to feed. Once the fleas would bite the black rats and got hungry again they would bite another animal spreading the Bacillus to other animals or humans if a flea bite a human. Once the flea would bite the human or whatever it bites, the Black Plague would infect that animal or human. The fleas did not prefer to feed off of humans but as a last resort when the fleas were hungry and could not find anything else to feed on they would bite the humans and begin the spreading of the bacill
Treatments during the early fourteenth century were not very good and usually did not help at all. Many people had different things they thought would help to cure the plague but their cures did not work. Cures and treatments consisted of burning aromatic woods, herbs, special diets, and bleeding the buboes (swollen lymph glands). Special sleeping postures, rich people tried medicines made of gold and pearls. People would pray and try anything to cure the Black Plague, but nothing was stopping it. The Black Plague kept spreading and killing thousands more. The magic did not help the plague victims, none of the gold and pearls helped the rich who used them. None of the medicines were working for the people. None of the herbs, or techniques of doing stuff helped the people that were struck by the Black Plague (Rice 1of2). Over all, the Black Plague was the most disastrous plague in the early to mid fourteenth century, it killed twenty-five million people in just five years (1347 - 1352). The Black Plague tortured many people and killed millions of others. The Black Plague is still around but it is nowhere as bad as it was back in the fourteenth century although it still exists in some parts of the world. Today, there are better vaccines for the Black Plague and more medicines to prevent its breakout again. When winter came, the Black Plague had devastated Europe. Once winter came the Black Plague began to die out somewhat. The reason for this was because the fleas were dormant and did not bite people, but the Black Plague still spread by human contact. So, it got less severe in winter, but when spring and summer rolled back around, it broke out full force again. During the winter people had hope of the end of the Black Plague. During the spread of the Black Plague twenty five million people died, this was one third of Europe's population (Rice 1of2). In the year thirteen forty-five, medical students told King Phillip VI that a conjugation of Saturn, Mars and Jupiter was the reason the Black Plague had broken out. The meaning of Saturn and Mars alignment meant death and Mars and Jupiter alignment meant pestilence in the air. Many people had different thoughts on the plague had started, but many people began to blame anything that was unusual (Gregg 8). In the beginning of the epidemic people thought many things were causing it, every person had their own thought of what caused it. Some people thought the reason of the Black Plague was the alignment of the planets. (discovery.com.lofl) In just five years the Black Plague had wiped out twenty five million people, one third of Europe's population. This took a heavy toll on the economy of Europe and all of the other countries struck by the Black Plague (Rice 2of2). The survivors of the Black Plague lived in constant fear of the Black Plague breaking out again. There were now shortages all over due to the millions that died of the Black Plague (Rice 1of2)
