Honda is one manufacturer that seems to be doing predominately well in the market, even though its home country, Japan, is in economic recession. There are various reasons why Japan has continued to thrive and do well in the marketplace. One tactic that they use is to be economically efficient, which helps their products to be low cost. Another positive feature about Honda is that they have various models for different wants and needs of individuals. Honda is also known for being well known for other products other than vehicles; they also produce motorcycles, engines, generators, lawn and garden products, personal watercrafts, pumps, scooters and snowblowers. Honda also has an extension of their vehicles, which is called Acura who is also made up of various models of vehicles.

Soichiro Honda is known as the founder of Honda Corporation that flourished and went beyond just the national borders of Japan and into various countries throughout the world. Soichiro Honda was born in 1906 in Hamamatsu, which is located in the Shizuoka Prefecture of Japan. The Civic was first introduced in 1972 due to the development of clean-running vehicles; however, the Civic did not receive much attention until 1975 when it became the first to develop a CVCC engine in the world to pass the United States federal Clean Air Act. The Civic was able to be the one to lead the auto industry in the latest advancements in technology, which includes Honda's VTEC engine. Honda has now introduced a type of Civic called the Hybrid where it contains a gasoline engine as well as an electric motor/generator to help assist it. This model is extremely fuel efficient and made affordable for an average individual.

During the 1930s, Soichiro Honda saved up enough funds and started his own business of producing engine parts. Subsequent to World War II and the destruction of Japan's economy, Soichiro Honda was able to keep business going by using the surplus engines from the war and adding them to bicycles. With that thought, Soichiro Honda started making motorcycles out of necessity due to the fact that gasoline prices were extremely high and public transportation was extremely overcrowded ; and by 1948 the Honda Motor Company, which he established started to expand further than Japan with financial help from Takeo Fujisawa.

Honda has done an excellent job at attaining the philosophy of "manufacturing where demand exists" because they have become one of the most prominent automobile companies in the world, who also diversifies by making other products.
