Femini

In society it is the nature of people to judge, separate and oppress each other. Women have expierenced this first hand, being unheard, underestimated and stereotyped. This has always been accepted but the past two or three generations have decided that things need to change. Society is beginning to change its unjust ways, and feminists are making it happen.

Feminism, when viewed simply, is exactly what the dictionary states it as: the movement for social, political and economic equality of men and women." Feminists are women who just don't want to be treated like shit" (baumgardner, 1). Feminism is a movement that is carried out by average everyday women, who are trying to accomplish social and political change. "Feminism isn't for any specific type of women it's solely for one that desires to be exactly who they are" (baumgardner, 3).in the story the yellow

wallpaper, a women suffering from a deep depression is able to overcome a struggle she has with a strange wallpaper in her bedroom. "I've got out at last said I, in spite of you Jane. And I've pulled off most of the paper, so you can't put me back."(Gilman, 481).

This illustrates her breakthrough from her own oppression.

To me feminism is women realizing there underestimation in society and the stereotype they have been placed under and the movement to regain what they have been oppressed from. Feminists are resulting in the start of equality of men and women. The only thing that can completely overcome the oppression in our society takes more than just feminism but the alliance between men and women.
