The Heat is On

The article, The Heat Is On discusses the rising problem of global warming. Many scientists and experts on the subject agree that humans are causing this sharp rise in climate. Jerry Mahlman, the director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at Princeton University, says there is little left to debate on the subject. "I'll take ten to one odds against anyone who says this is bogus," he remarks. He believes that the industrial output of greenhouse gases is responsible for the change. He is not alone with his views. New studies show that the planet is hotter than it has been in thousands of years. The basic idea of global warming is the earth's ocean, soil, plants, and animals naturally release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Along with other gases such as methane and water vapor, they trap solar radiation in, keeping a steady climate. Human activities in the last century appear to be adding more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than are being naturally recycled. Nature essentially can't keep up with our pace of producing greenhouse gases. This increasing margin is what scientists believe to be the cause of global warming.

The tie of global warming to the chapters is its effect on all levels of organization within the biosphere. It affects the individual organisms by making it harder for them to get a specific food, or changing the growth of an organism that they interact with. Global warming could affect a species over time, by creating an alteration or mutation in its way of life. Ecosystems could change from flooding of an area, or increased humidity. More erratic weather such as hurricanes or tornadoes could devastate a particular area and change the ecosystem. The entire biosphere could be affected by the rising sea levels, and increasing climate. Low coastal regions would disappear under the sea. Cold latitudes will spring new life and allow humans to have more space to live. Many other unpredicted changes would take place, some for better or worse. Everything would receive some effect of global warming.

One thing that nearly all scientists agree on is that the models that try to predict the outcome are just toys. With the planet, they get just one experiment. They can't turn things around if they don't like what happens.

as of how the earth's climate is rising; they have written and recorded proof. Since 1900
