The political Economy and Terrorism
The Political Economy and Terrorism The world's political economy is an ever-changing factor that influences us everyday. With our flourishing economy here in the U.S., we have seen many changes over the course of the last year. From planes crashing into buildings to markets dropping, job cuts, and being on the brink of a war, the U.S. has been influenced greatly by international terrorism. The global economy may not directly affect international terrorism, but it definitely provokes a struggle for power amongst the countries of the world. This struggle for power leads to wars over land, riches, and resources. With a great power like the United States dealing the cards of absolute economic power to the rest of the world, it leaves the smaller countries jealous and quite uneasy. The only way for a poor country to compete in the world is to be noticed with authority. It's as simple as stealing some planes and crashing them into the biggest trading center in the U.S. While the U.S. struggles to maintain security among the country, the market begins to crash and smaller countries reap the benefits. For the past year, the U.S. has been able to look for the culprit of September eleventh while flashing its military and sending threats. These threats have been heard by every country in the world, which helps the U.S. maintain it's power and known to the world that we are a force to be reckoned with. With hints that Iraq and Saddam played parts in the eleventh attacks, it would be unwise for the U.S. not to follow up on their threats of seeking and destroying anyone involved in the plot against us. If we let Saddam get away with terrorist harboring then others may pick up where the slack was left off. As a realist republican I believe the U.S. must strike against Iraq if they continue to disobey the weapons regulations and treaties. In dealing with the U.S., I would say that there are consequences for terrorism. Whether it is economically or violently, the U.S. will find a way to make a country suffer for their actions. But could these actions put an end to terrorism? It is said that the U.S. is responsible for exporting up to 80% of the world's goods. It is easy to see that our world is financially unequal. Even European countries that are considered financially strong cannot compare to the U.S. by a long shot. Along with saying the United States military is stronger than the next ten strongest in line combined. On any given day at St. Olaf it isn't hard to miss a happy father drop his son/daughter off at a front door with a new TV and computer in a Cadillac Escalade. It easy to see how a country other than the United States might see the global economy as
