All the world is a stage
To say that "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players" would be to describe many of Shakespeare's plays. Many of the characters in Shakespeare's plays are subconsciously playing the parts in their own soap operas. For instance, in "Titus Andronicus", the outcome of Titus' life is a direct reflection of the consequences of his actions. Titus' tragic life unfolds before us like a horrible nightmare. Had he foreseen the suffering he would endure by his own actions, he would have been able to avoid such an untimely death. Perhaps the character of Saturninus is the best example of the famous quote from the play " As You Like It", because he is always pretending to be something he is not to the masses, while showing his true colors in private. The first indication that Saturninus is not a very nice man is when he decides to thank Titus for his loyalty by choosing Lavinia's hand in marriage, as if doing Titus a favor. Throughout most of the play, Saturninus acts as if he is Titus' friend, only to be stabbing him in the back for the most part. So in conclusion, to say that "all the world is a stage and all the men and women are merely actors" is a relatively brilliant statement because I sometimes feel that we are all characters in someone's magnificent and never ending play. In this play, desperate men try everything they can to win over one particular girl. In the end, Bianca chooses to marry Lucentio because they are in love. Petruchio and Kate did not marry for love, for who could love such an unruly woman. These two different examples also reflect upon true life and the reality of playing parts for others. Bianca showed a side of herself that could not be seen as undesirable in order to find the man who loves her while Kate showed quite the opposite side of herself. Petruchio could not have married Kate for love, but he grew to love her. I think all of the characters in the play were plying roles inside of roles. Hortensio pretends to be a teacher of music for Bianca after her father asks him to find a suitable instructor for her. He is lying to Baptista as well as his daughter Bianca all to try to win her as if she were a prize. I think almost all of Shakespeare's plays take on a bit of reality by forcing us to view a side of humanity that we may not want to see. I know that I myself identify with characters such as Titus, w
