Crucible, A Man for All Seasons Comparison
A detailed Summary of Crucible, A Man for All Seasons Comparison
Within the movie, "The Crucible" and the play A Man for all Seasons the two protagonists, John Proctor and Thomas Moore have many similarities between them.
Thomas More and John Proctor were both put into situations where they had to make very hard decisions where neither choice selected would have a favorable outcome.
Thomas More works for the King of England as Chancellor of England. This title requires him to be loyal to the King. More also has a very strong moral base and has very defined views on law and principles. Within the play More is put into a situation where he has to decide whether he should go against the thoughts and wishes of his very own conscience or against those of the King. If Thomas More decides to side with the King, he will loose everything that he believes in, meaning everything that he is. More's opinion on this matter is clearly evident when he is speaking to his daughter on pg. 83 "When a man takes an oath, Me

He is not swayed even when his daughter Margaret tries to say him to go against his conscience. She tries to convince him with the words that he once told her, "God more regards the thought of the heart than the words of the mouth". Nevertheless, he does not submit to the family temptations and decided to do what his heart tells him to. More ended up dying but he died a noble death. Right before he dies he states to the Headsman "Friend, be not afraid of your office. You send me to God". And with this he died, happily.
John Proctor was married to a woman who was being accused of witchcraft in the small town of Salem. A woman, Abigail, that Proctor had an affair with some time ago is accusing a lot of people in the town of witchcraft so that she can save herself. Amidst all the confusion, Proctor himself gets involved and soon he too, is cha
