A detailed Summary of College Application Essay

I moved to the U.S. with my mother without any prior knowledge of American culture when I was in the ninth grade. My first language is Chinese, and I had much difficulties acclimating to my new environment at first. I didn't have any friends in school and felt like an outsider in a school that was mostly white. Some students ridiculed my English and classes were intimidating. However, once the initial culture shock wore off, I caught on very fast. I started to volunteer for answers in class. I attended many school activities and made many friends.

My father joined us in L.A. after three years. My parents had some problems adjusting as well, not having steady career jobs. Wanting to help my parents with their finances, I started to work as a telemarketer at 011/NOS Communica

From my experiences, I have learned so much. I have learned to compete in the real world. I have learned how to deal with people. And I now have the self-confidence that if I try very hard, I can achieve anything I put my mind to it. For example, I lost 30 pounds in six weeks last year after starting a healthy diet and exercise regimen. I know I still have much to learn. I need a good education so I can take my business to the next level. And I am very motivated.

After graduating from high school, I have been attending Pasadena City College. Again, I had to work while attending school.
