What exactly is honor and what does it mean? Webster's Dictionary defines it as a high regard or great respect for a person or thing, or adherence to principles, to do what is considered right. It is not something anyone can actually see or touch. It is abstract, it is there, but no one can actually see it. It is a state of mind within a person. Is there in our world a working definition of honor? Soldiers, police officers and firefighters display great honor towards others. Parents and teachers take honor in developing the minds of children directing their lives as they grow. It can also be found in the moral boundaries of students. All these different people posses some form of honor.

Soldiers arm themselves, say goodbye to their loved ones and go to war. They put their lives at stake every day by facing enemy fire on the front lines of the battlefield wondering if they will


make it through to the following week, day, hour, or even minute. They do all of this because they have honor for their country. They feel that it is their duty to fight for what they believe in. It is something that they love. They are not just fighting for themselves but for their families, their jobs, their freedom, and their beliefs. The things that many people take for granted everyday. Nobody should have the right to take these belongings away from anyone. Firefighters and policemen risk their lives to rescue the lives of many civilians. They have saved whole families by pulling innocent men, women, and children from flames, floods, and rubble. They give everything they have to protect innocent people. They put others before them because they honor them.
