Oedipux Rex

In Egypt there was a city called Thebes. The king and Queen of Thebes were Lauis and Jocasta. Lauis hear a prophecy that he will have a son who will grow up and kill him and take over his kingdom. When the son is born Lauis has his feet pierced and him sent to be put on a mountain to die. A messenger brings him to the mountain but doesn't have the heart to let him die so he give the boy to a man that takes him to the city of Corinth. The king of Corinth is Polybus. Polybus is given the boy by the messenger and raises him as his own. When Oedipus is eighteen he is told a prophecy that he will kill his father and marry him mother. After his eighteen-birthday party he leaves the city so that the prophecy will not come true. In his travels one day he comes across a fork in the road. He sees five men (one of which is King Lauis of Thebes) on horses and that crash into him. Oedipus loses his temper and kills 4 of the five men. After this he heads on and comes to the city of Thebes. The


Teiresias a blind profit who tells Oedipus that he knows the truth but Oedipus does not want to know it. Teiresias is blind and may not be able to see the physical world but can see into souls, hearts, and minds. Oedipus send is right hand man Creon to Delphi to find out the truth. When Creon comes back and tells him what he heard Oedipus gets very angry. Oedipus doesn't hate Creon he is just upset and confused. He can't face the truth. He accuses Creon of wanting to be king. Creon has no need to be king and doesn't want to be. He already has everything that comes with being king without the problems.

In the story Oedipus is a hero. He faces many troubles in the search for the truth. When the truth is reviled then it will bring hope and healing. A hero is Relentless, brings hope, brings light and expects the truth. He is a hero because he is someone who struggles and puts his problems behind him. Oedipus has a hamartia, a fatal flaw. His is hubris, which is over weaning excis
