North American Ideals of Physical Beauty
North American ideals of physical beauty or bodily "perfection"During our civilized debate, one subject that came that has appealed to me to talk about was " North American ideals of physical beauty or bodily "perfection". I think it has become one of the greatest concerns amongst our culture today that I cannot be unable to discuss on a subject like this one. Many issues and aspects can be collected and analyzed from a subject about ideals of our way of perceiving the human's physical beauty. We are capable to know the problematic factors that influence such thinking in our society, but the reason why it does can vary with different people with different personal needs for themselves. I may be able to name and discuss and a few aspects that I find relevant and related to my topic. I will also discuss about the side effects that this has on our society for having such an inappropriate mentality. There will be solutions and how I think they may one day change or offer benefits to the individuals in our society. We must remember that solutions are always present but it is our will to change and our actions that will make the difference. Eating disorders continue to be a major problem in our society, especially with youn
There are, of course, alternative solutions for losing weight. I can leave to the solutions for personal trainers and nutritionists. The most important solution is to be able to accept nature and be happy with the body we are genetically intended to have. As in the song, "Anything can happen," by Wyclef, " If you're fat, shake what your momma gave you!" This way of thinking will improve our well-being and help many men and women worldwide. It might seem that it's too late to promote a new perception for the new ideal body. However, only a few decades ago, society did not place much emphasis on diets or body shapes. Centuries ago, women's curves were not overlooked and represented a woman's fertility. In Japanese culture, men loved curves on women; they were considered to be more healthy and beautiful. Nowadays, curves are out and skeletons are in. It is sad but true, women think that they must and want to be skinny so they can be more cherished and loved by men. Of course not all men are going to agree that they prefer skinny women but what they show, in general, is the complete opposite. How often do we see runway models with curves and playboy models with flabs? Why don't we parade more of those plus size models? People think that they don't flatter the clothes, but if we thought differently and had a new perception, then those plus size models would be more envied than the skinny models. If men weren't so busy staring at models with skinny bodies, then we wouldn't be so busy comparing our bodies to theirs. I'm sure if we destroyed all fashion and beauty magazines, then I'm sure more men and women would all be much happier and learn to accept their own bodies as they are. It is also because women create many trends amongst them especially from girls to girls and they are just influenced by ads creating demands. Our ideologies have become inadequate and are limited to a false consciousness. Television also shows how we are so easily adapted to the worldview that we now have. Television undoubtedly shapes our picture of the perfect society. The lives they run on the shows seem ideal and perfect. They are not concerned about their bodies and seem so confident about themselves. We want to look and feel like them because they seem perfect and we would do almost anything to achieve their looks to be able to feel confident about ourselves. We think we'd be much happier in other people's shoes sometimes, not all the time. The stars run the lives we wish to have and have the life we dream about everyday. They appear healthy, glamorous, rich, sophisticated, classy, with a great career, nice houses, nice families, and no worries. It seems that we know that being rich and having a good career, nice homes and families makes us think too far in the future that it might be something harder to achieve. It looks like the only thing we can plan a change is with our body. Most of us think that by being perfecting our looks (skinnier, sexier, and with more class) it will help us feel in control and lead a better, happier life; that is what we think, anyway. Some shows and even advertisements are aimed especially towards teenagers and young adults. We, as teenagers, are in a stage where we are most vulnerable to this cruel society we live in. We are in a stage where we are trying to search where we belong in this big world and it is a very important for us to fit in with everyone else. We are vulnerable because we think that the whole world is against us and people are watching our every action. Comments people make toward us seem more difficult to handle because we take everything personally since we are so self-centered. The comments are hard to deal with and will especially hurt if it comes from people we love or admire. It could be from
