Student safety here at High School should be every students number one priority. You need to feel safe here at High School not only because your four years here have a great influence on how much success you are going to have in life but because you are in school for most of your life. When I heard about the shootings at Columbine High School I was pretty scared because I heard that the shooters were aiming for the jocks and cheerleaders. I will admit I play sports so I guess I am considered a jock, but I'm proud of that and for someone to want to hurt me for it scares me. Some people need sports to pay for their college education and threats like that may make them think twice about playing. I can help ensure every student's safety here at Beyer High School by leading by example and by reporting threats I hear about to authorities.
One way I can ensure safety on campus is by leading by example. One day in the forum I saw a resource boy who had Down Syndrome. He came and sat down with a group of guys who started to tease him and make do things to his fingers such as bend them all the backwards and just other stuff that could really hurt him. They were also making fun of him and mocking his movements. The resource boy ended u
p falling out of his chair and started to cry. I walked over to where he had fallen, helped him up and put him back into his chair. I also let those guys know how stupid all of them were acting. They had enough balls to make fun of a guy who thought they were laughing with him but when someone told them what kind of people they really were, they were all as speechless and motionless as a statue. I remember that day very well because it made me realize that people weren't just cruel and racist to people of other races but to people with certain handicaps. Another similar situation you could help someone out with is with this whole Muslim and Bin Laden thing. Yes, there are Muslims and People who wear turbans that go to our school but that doesn't mean they hate you or anybody else. One thing half the people don't realize is that the people at this school who wear turbans are Sikhs from India and not Muslims from Afghanistan or any other country in the middles east. If you see anyone yell out something like, " Hey Bin Laden" or anything else that is directed at those certain people just tell that person to shut up or just to be a little more considerate of those people's feelings. I personally don't believe in categorizing people , I believe in judging every person as an individual and not base that person by his/her religion, race, family background or anything e
