A detailed Summary of Shakespeare

In Shakespeare's Macbeth and Hamlet many similarities and differences occur. In Hamlet, Hamlet's father was killed from poison put into his ear by his own brother. Hamlet sees his father's ghost and vows to seek revenge. In Macbeth, Macbeth wants to rule Scotland. Macbeth will stop at nothing to get the power he wants. At first his wife pushes him to kill then realizes the monster she has made. This paper will cover three of the similarities and differences of Macbeth and Hamlet. The three similarities are that both plays have a war, two of the main female characters go crazy and, both original kings die. The three differences are, the reasons that Macbeth and Hamlet kill, the way that Lady Macbeth influences Macbeth and Gertrude influences Claudius and, the different spiritual elements involved with the plays.

The first similarity is that both plays have a war in them. In Macbeth the Scottish army is fighting the Norwegian army. We find out that the Scottish army is at war when a captain for the king's army comes in. The king says, "What bloody man is that? He can report, As seemeth by his plight, of the revolt The newest state." (1, 2, LL 1-3) The war in Hamlet is first shown when the soldier Francisco changes his

The third similarity is that both of the main kings die in each play. In Macbeth King Duncan is invited to Macbeth's house for a dinner where he is stabbed to death along with the two soldiers protecting him. Macbeth is the one who kills the king. In Hamlet King Hamlet is killed when Claudius pours a toxin in to his ear. This is revealed when Hamlet is talking to his fathers ghost and the ghost says, " Sleeping within my orchard, My cutson always of the afternoon, Upon y secure hour thy uncle stole, With juices of cursed hebona in a vial, And in the porches of my ears did pour The leprous distilment, whose effect Holds such and enmity with blood of man" (I, 5, LL 66/72)

Many Similarities occur between Macbeth and Hamlet. These were just a few of them. This shows that Shakespeare had similar ideas for his plays. He also just put enough differences to spice things up a bit.

Along with the many similarities there are also a lot of good contrasts between Macbeth and Hamlet. One such contrast is the reasons that Macbeth and Hamlet kill. In Macbeth, Macbeth kills because he wants to gain power. The only good way for him to do this is to devise a way to kill the existing king. At first Mabeth doesn't want to kill Duncan but Lady Macbeth starts to challenge him to kill the king. Once Macbeth gains the power that he longs for, he starts to kill off people who are in his way and may begin to piece the death of Duncan together. In Hamlet, Hamlet kills because his father's ghost wants Hamlet to revenge his death. Hamlet talks to his father during
