Clear and Present Danger
A detailed Summary of Clear and Present Danger
In the movie "Clear and Present Danger" is a movie about a secret coalition being sent into Columbia illegally. A close friend of the President and his family are murdered aboard their yacht in the Caribbean, setting off a chain of events that leads Jack Ryan, Deputy Director of the CIA., into a dangerous confrontation with the Columbian drug cartel. This movie also ask the question, can a drug cartel obtain more power than the United States? Jack Ryan was the CIA Deputy director. He was renamed the director of the CIA after his friend, former CIA director James Greer, who was hospitalized. Jack was a very intelligent and a stand up guy. He didn't have very much knowledge of and wasn't really aware of the real situation that was before him. Greer even told him to watch his back. He knew that there was shifty people in the government that he was working with. Jack Ryan was unaware of the corruption between the drug cartels and the United States government. He was a very determined individual. He almost got himself killed trying to fix the President's power. If Ryan knew all the facts about the real situation, he could of been more productive and there could of been a better outcome.
James Cutter was the National Security Advisor

Ernesto Escobado was a drug lord and head of the Cali Cartel. He was a very strong and powerful force in Columbia. Many feared him. He was the richest drug lord. Ernesto told two of his people to kill a man named Peter Hardin and his family. Hardin owed Ernesto $650 million and change. Ernesto shows no compassion for his victims. When his right hand man, Felix Cortez, told Ernesto that the man he killed was a good friend of the President of the United States Ernesto said he don't care and he continued to hit baseballs. He was a very dominant person. He had control over many people. He considered himself more powerful than the U.S. President. He was a family man though. There were many occasions where Ernesto had a party for his children or played sports or something with them.
The documentary Killing Pablo, by Mark Bowden, was about the life and death of Pablo Escobar. Pablo Escobar became the godfather of international cocaine trafficking by offering a choice to anybody standing in his way: plata o plomo (silver or lead). Eventually, Escobar himself got both. Escobar terrorized and corrupted Colombia to its core through years of bombings, kidnappings and murders of police, politicians, judges, prosecutors and journalists and their relatives. Escobar was caught once, when the Colombian government struck a deal with him to send him to jail. But the jail was barely even a gilded cage, and from within its country club-like walls Escobar continued his drug operation. In 1992 he escaped during a botched military raid. Despite being tracked by modern surveillance equipment, Escobar slipped from hideout to hideout, frustrating a force said to number 3,000 Colombian policemen augmented by elite U.S. units. Escobar's demise was hastened by vigilantes whose families he had victimized. They called themselves Los Pepes. Adopting his style as their own, they torched Escobar's lavish homes and killed, by their estimate, some 300 people who aided him. There were rumors that Los Pepes and the Search Bloc were closely related, something that would be problematic for the United States, as such a relationship with a vigilante group would violate American law. In any event, by mid-1993 the hunt had become a free-for-all among the Colombians, Bowden noted in the movie. Escobar was killed on December 2, 1993, shot on the roof of a hideout in Medellin.
Robert Ritter was the CIA Intelligent officer. Ritter was in someways just like Cutter. He was a shady person that could really can't be trusted. Since Ritter was CIA Intelligent officer it would be very scary if a person in his position couldn't be trusted. Ritter also had a hand in sending the
