June 17th, 1789: The Third Estate Declares itself to be a National Assembly. They invited the nobles and clergy to join them in this single-chambered legislature.
June 20th, 1789: Tennis Court Oath declared. In fear that they would be stopped, the members of the National Assembly regrouped at a local indoor tennis court and swore not to break up until France had a new constitution.
July 14th, 1789: Mob storms the Bastille in Paris. The Bastille was a large fortress on the eastern edge of the city. The storming of the Bastille marked that attempts at reform had become a full-blown revolution. Faced with this revolt, the monarchy backed down.
August 14th, 1789: Nobles and clergy in the National Assembly give up their privileges out of fear. The National Assembly announced the end of feudalism
