In the novel, she is tranquil, highly obedient, and secondary, in other words, she considered him a more important being than herself. As we read the novel, it is reasonable to think that her love is mainly manifested through 'silent' agreement. Yet, Elizabeth, in the film is full-blooded, raw, and has a disposition of a tomboy. She can sometimes speak out her own opinions, embody the desires which she possesses fiercely. In other words, she is highly 'vocal' whereas Elizabeth in the novel is 'silent'. In addition, if her wants cannot be fulfilled as in a way of her seeking, she is able to quit the love relationship and leave him.
