The Celebration Chronicles by Andrew Ross is the story of a town created by a corporation. Its commerce, housing, recreation and even education systems were all created by Disney. The reason for setting up Celebration Florida is too promote the ideal American town and the American Dream. But does the influence of a large corporation allow this to be possible?
A corporation's main goal and purpose is to make money. This is also part of the American dream. We all would like to be able to control our own lives, and finance ourselves through life so we wont have to depend on anyone else to live happily. For the creators and heads of a corporation this dream is probably realized. But that is also basically where the dream ends. Corporations, unlike most small businesses, have large numbers of employees whose jobs are always on the line do to the threat of "corporate downsizing" or "restructuring". They basically give a more pleasant term to what is in reality the firing of employees to raise stock value and earn more money for the people in charge.

The American Dream above all is based on a number of human rights. The right to own land, the right to free speech, and the right to earn a living are just some of these. Corporations do allow for these rights to a certain extent. But when something is a liability to their profits they tend to find a way to decrease the liability and at the same time ruin the American Dream for many individuals.
So yes, Disney does look like a good company who cares about people.
The corporate effect can be seen in Celebration Florida as well. Yes, the town is made up to represent the ideal American community. But there are many restraints put on citizens. Not everyone is able to live in this town. You will have to make a certain amount of money of course to afford the houses in the first place, but the town or corporation, puts restraints on what people are allowed to do to their personal property. Part of the American dream is definitely to own your own land and be able to do whatever you want with it.
