Immature
Often, when an individual is immature, they lack an understanding of their environment. When a person is immature, it effects their reputation. In many ways, a person that is immature is not trusted by other people. To be immature is like being a child. In the novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinback, Lennie is an example of an immature character. Although Lennie is among the principle characters, he is the least dynamic, because he is, mentally slow, physically slow, and he creates negative situations. He undergoes no significant changes, development, or growth throughout the novel. Lennie is a mentally slow character due to his immature behavior, lack of making the proper decision, and his lack ability to protect himself. Lennie's habit of petting soft things, such as a dead mouse or the dress of a woman, often gets George and Lennie into trouble, forcing the two men to continuously have to find new work. Because of his mental limitations, Lennie never could understand or anticipate the consequences of his actions. He is a completely defenseless individual. Lennie is an immature character, again, because of being infatuated with petting soft things. The result of this particular quality he has, an extremely negative action occurred. As he was touching Curley's wife's hair, he began to get too rough. When she panicked to escape, Lennie was holding her tightly in place, so that she could not move. As she tried harder and harder, Lennie accidentally snapped her neck. In a result, Curley leads a mob of men to search for and kill him. As George finds Lennie in the clearing, he was retelling the story of life on their farm. George shoots his best friend, Lennie, so that he can escape a brutal lynching. George lets go of the dream, "living off the fat of the land", once his best friend is gone. Lennie never meant any harm to occur towards anyone. All he wanted was to receive the love that he gave to animals and people, especially George. Although, John Steinback, the author Of Mice and Men, created Lennie as an immature character, with childish behavior, he had George to protect him.
