A detailed Summary of Greeat Expectations - Character Analysis of Pip

In the book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the main character, Pip, is a boy who grows to become a man of admirable qualities. This story is the circumstances and events that occur in-between these two time periods, and how they affect him as a person. In Latin, Pip means "seedaE?. Just as a seed grows and changes, Pip experiences life changing events and struggles. Pip is a boy growing up in the slummy community of Khent. Though Pip feels like he is confined to his small community when he is young, his expectations reach further out than even he realizes. Pip experiences three stages in his life. These people had major impacts on Pip's thought process and decision making. Pip's expectations have changed. They have changed because Pip has changed. He no longer sees himself as always at fault and knows he can not control other people. He sees the unfair treatment he gave to Joe and Biddy and feels remorse.
