The success of the movie would not be possible with out the awarded novel Gone with the Wind, written by Margaret Mitchell. Journalist and Novelist, Margaret Mitchell was an American writer in the early 1900's.

November 8, 1900, Margaret Mitchell came into the world and would later bless many with her talent of writing. Forty nine years later on August 16, the successful writer was killed by a drunk driver. In life Margaret had premonitions about her death being a tragedy and actually said that she would be killed in a car accident (Margaret (Munnerlyn) 1).

The setting of Gone with the Wind is in the south on a plantation during the time of the Civil War. The main character, Scarlett O'Hara, helps her family through the Civil War and the rebuilding. Rhett Butler married Scarlett and they had a daughter, Bonnie Blue. Scarlett and Rhett had a terrible marriage for the only thing that kept them together was Bonnie. Bonnie died when she was thrown from a pony her father bought her. In the story, Scarlett is brought down to poverty form her rich childhood. She uses her charm to get back her wealth because of the destruction of the plantation. "Gone with the Wind will remain a memorable work of literature" (Grimes 2590).
